Girls are getting taller?

I am 5ft 8 not growing any more. Anyhow they say the average is 5ft 4 for a girl and 5ft 9 for guys. I dont believe that for a minute!! Everyday for the past few months I stand near girls at the train station, bus stop etc. etc. And they are NOT wearing heels. The vast majority are taller than me!!! What's going on. The average can't be 5ft 4 for girls here. Its gotta be 5ft 7 minimum. But whats going on girls are going huge. I feel so short even around girls here!! girls how tall are you? Compared to other guys u know?? and how come girls are so tall these days? (or am i short?(

Girls are getting taller?
i am 5'3 and shorter than guys i know. most of the women in my family are short. i say 5'8 is ok. but anyways, could it be the milk?
Reply:Ah well, I am 5' and my hubby is 6'6" -- I know, the height difference is massive, but to be honest, we got completely used to it.. Plus we both needed to compensate, to produce average children..





I used to feel short around people, but now that I'm 23, I am so used to my height, I don't even think about it that much anymore! And when guys are 5'6 I feel like they are really really short, because I live with a giant ;) It's just a question of perspective.





Also, this might sound silly but is true, if you start thinking that all women are tall, then you will only see tall women!

Reply:im a shorty at 5"3 yeah yeah laughit up, but I KNOW! all these gurls are like wilt chamerblin (love that guy r.i.p) your are deff. not short i guess living at this time and with all the caluicum that they're acutally getting their bones are strong and their growing. and i know what u mean i think the guys are shrinkin cause the girls are getttin there.

Reply:Girls may be getting taller, and there's many reasons why. One theory is that the synthetic hormones added to chicken, eggs, beef, etc.. cause girls to not only start menstruating earlier (some as early as 7 years of age, which is much too young), but also increases their rate of growing.





Another concept is that we, as a human race, are ever evolving. I don't believe in evolution to the extent that we came from primates, but I do believe that within this lifetime, the human race as a whole has evolved and will continue doing so. By this, I mean that over years and years, our genetics change and maybe we will become a taller race? Who's to say.





Lastly, I think it depends on what part of the country you're in as to what the "average" height is. It's been proven that certain parts of the world produce certain standards in their physical structures.





I'm 5'8"....I'm done growing, so I guess I'm kind of tall for a girl. But, all in all...I wouldn't worry about it. Tall girls are HOT! ;o)
Reply:I think that girls are getting taller -- I was 5'8 1/2" at 15! Lol. (I ended up growing that extra half-inch, in the end)





I have noticed that in America, the girls are generally taller, but the British are shorter. (I say it's all the smoking the Brits are doing when they're 11 and so... but that's just me.)





However, kids are definitely getting much taller than they used to be. I go to an international college (High School), and see how tall everybody is - I'm an average height!





I do have trouble (since moving to England) finding a guy that's taller than me when I'm in heels. So, for now, I've forgone the heels and done my calves and my date a favor.





I think the reason every body's getting so tall is the different food, different health practices and different activity levels. My best friend claims that we're all still evolving, so if you're into that, I guess that could be another reason.
Reply:yeah those averages do see a little small. i'm 5'7'' and i'd say i'm only slightly above average. i'd say under 5'8'' is short for a man, 5'9''-5'11'' is average and 6' and above is tall.
Reply:5ft8 is TALL. well for a girl you're tall. at least you not like 5ft 3 (like me) so count your blessings and be glad that you're not short. cos being my height IS short. i would be very glad to be your height you know

Reply:My parents and I are praying for me to grow to 5'9". My dream is to become a model, and I have to be a certain height. Right now I am about 5'2", and thank God I am still growing taller! But, you're right, a lot of people are getting taller these days..

Reply:I am 5'6 and I am considered tall when compared to my friends a lot of my co-workers cuz 85 percent of them are shorter than me. 5'5 is average height for women and 5'10 is average height for a guy. When I wear heels I can get up to 5'9 and still not tower over my bf.....lol

im a Asian living in singapore and im merely 5 ft 5 and the world treat me like an tall freak my friends call me freak.


When i stand in train and everything, i feel like im a freak cos im so tall.


We singaporeans don't appreciate height as much as you westerners do.


My health report treated me like a freak too,


they tell me that I have a height above 99.3% of the Singaporeans Girls population.


I wan to slap them,


even the guys are short like sh*t.


Half of the class is shorter than me.

Reply:Yeah I've noticed that too! Most girls that are younger than me are taller qround here. Most people also have big feet compared to mine around here. Guess it's geneics.

Reply:I do N0T know where you are from! I am not even five feet yet in seventh grade and most people are SHORTER than me. I live in Ohio. So, I guess it just differs upon location.
Reply:Girls have there growth spurts earlier than guys. around 11- 15. but for guy they have their growth spurts after the girls, about 17-20. it depends on you gens too. like you parents. you average your moms height and your dads height.
